Junior coaching programme pays off

13 September 2010

The Castle Point Cadet section recently hosted local rivals Boyce Hill GC in a friendly match. This was their first ever match against an opposing team in the history of the club and is part of the coaching programme geared up to the clubs first ever entry into the 2011 Essex Youth Shield tournament. The team accredited themselves by emerging as victors by 3 matches to 2, and the U12 boys tying with their opponents in a Stableford format with 112 points each.

This is an encouraging result for the club, who have benefited under high profile coaching from Resident Manager/Professional Nigel Burch who has played and coached on both the European Tour and Sunshine Tour of South Africa.

The Castle Point GC has encouraged the growth of the Cadet Section over the past 2 years and now has a junior membership of over 40, they all receive coaching on Saturday mornings and are encouraged to play in the Mens competitions once they have achieved the qualifying criteria. This is a forward step by the club under the guidance of Bill Assenheim and his Committee who are shaping the future of the club on the much improved Castle Point Links course under the management of Glendale Golf, operators of 8 Golf courses around the country.
